Turning Point operates two Adult Developmental Vocational Programs.
One located in Morganton, NC in Burke County: Burke Opportunities,
& one located in Taylorsville, NC in Alexander County: Alexander Opportunities.
TPS Adult Day Vocational Programs, otherwise known as ADVP, generally operate with consumers on site from 9am to 3pm five days a week. State holidays are observed. No fees are charged to consumers for Medicaid reimbursable services. In the event that an individual consumer has a Medicaid deductible, the consumer and/or their parent/guardian/other responsible adult must pay the deductible.
The programs offer a variety of services and activities, including vocational evaluation available to all consumers, vocational training, remunerative employment, personal and community living skill development, adult basic education and long-term support and follow-up. "Supported Employment" may be a part of the ADVP services. This service involves paid work in a job which would otherwise be done by a non-disabled worker. Supported employment is carried out in an integrated work site where an individual or a small number of people with disabilities work together and where the work site is not immediately adjacent to another program serving persons with disabilities. It usually includes involvement of staff working with the individuals in these integrated settings.
Also available to our consumers in Burke County, the Compensatory Education Classes are contracted through Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC. These classes pertain to the development of skills in vocational education, academics and independent living.
